Financial Stress Is Real—Here’s How to Beat It

At Jordan Credit Union, we know money stress can hit hard—especially when life already feels overwhelming. That’s why Landon Bradfield brought in expert Justin Olsen, a licensed counselor and rep from Blomquist Hale, to talk about how to tackle financial stress from both a mental health and money management angle.

Whether you’re worried about bills, debt, or making ends meet, this episode was packed with real advice to help you get back on track—and feel better along the way.

How to Deal with Financial Stress (and Feel Like Yourself Again)

  1. Talk to Someone—Don’t Keep It In
When you’re drowning in financial worries, it’s easy to shut down. But talking about it—whether with a friend, family member, or counselor—can take the pressure off and help you feel supported. You don’t have to have all the answers right away.
  2. Get a Game Plan
After venting, it’s time to plan. Start with the basics:
    • How much money is coming in?
    • How much is going out?
    • Where’s it all going?

Break down your needs vs. wants and make sure your essentials are covered first.

  1. Automate What You Can
Make managing your money easier by setting up automatic payments for bills and savings. That way, your money is working for you—without the daily stress of tracking every dollar.
  2. Understand Why You’re Stressed
Is it credit card debt? Fear about retirement? Too many bills? Digging into the real source of your stress can help you find the right solution—and feel more in control.
  3. Fill Your Tank Again
Financial stress can wear you down, so Justin suggests 5 simple ways to refill your “emotional reservoir”:
    • Sleep well (7–9 hours a night)
    • Exercise daily
    • Eat well most of the time
    • Talk to someone
    • Do things that bring joy—even simple stuff like a walk, family time, or chatting with a friend
